W H I I Yr s. s dy ff f- f ns i Y t At 0 4 4 W 1 ff 1 i l i hf ff iw t 5 r I t 1 w t Rf Wes Vies Barlow Craig Plant Linda Strasburg Linda Miller Suzy Turner Tum r Bobbie Jo Janic and Dianna Sim Simpson son Student Body President Susan Turner During the last 10 months many marty of you have seen me running around campus How often have you said I just wonder what she really does for us us' us The roles I have on Campus are that of student and Student body President These are roles I enjoy and in June it will wiIl be a difficult goodbye My day on campus usually starts around am a.m. and ends between pm p.m. and 1000 pm p.m. depending on the activities of the day I spend my days working toward achieving the goals I set for myself and the Executive Council The objectives that were set and have either been completed or have been incorporated into being a part of mine or the Executive Councils Council's routine are as follows Each officer was requested to have a major project completed by end of term Christmas Club and Special Olympics fundraiser are examples of the type of projects being accomplished My personal project is to set up an activity scholarship scholarship scholarship scholar scholar- ship program This scholarship would be available to people interested in becoming more involved in student government As it stands now there will be 3 scholarships available each quarter The recipients of this award will be obligated to actively involve themselves in every aspect of the student activities It will be given through application and is expected to become a p part rt of the by This program will wiIl take affect Fall FaIl 1985 I promised regular office hours and this ha has become a reality I spend three r 5 hours at least in my office or in the College Center building ing daily I represent on more than seven councils and committees I voice student concerns and opinions whenever the opportunity occurs President Carnahan and I have established an open door policy in which by making making making mak mak- ing an appointment any student can discuss problems and concerns with the President The Executive Council has regular meetings on Tuesdays at am a.m. in Parlor C. C Any student is welcome to attend I spend one Saturday a month traveling around Utah and meeting with the Utah Council of Presidents During these meetings I voice concerns as they apply to state and federal problems Members of Student Senate have acted as my liason at the 1985 Legislature We have been directly responsible for the passage of House Bill 13 AS Degree and House Bill funding for College Center Expansion Ive I've travelled Ive I've danced all night Ive I've wrapped hundreds of gifts at Christmas t f for our special students Ive I've cried and Ive I've laughed during my year as I President It has no doubt been the very best year of my life Thank t you for giving me this experience I just hope you feel Ive I've done the best I could for our school Executive Vice pres Wes Barlow As I approach the last quarter of office as Utah Technical College Colleg Vice President it gives me the opportunity to let the of Utah Tech r r know that I have appreciated their support as active and participating students This year has been a lot of fun so far and will bring back many pleasant memories As Associated Students Vice Pres I have had the opportunity to serve as President of the Student Senate which has given me a chance to work closely with each senator at large and also departmental l se senators Its It's been encouraging to see seethe seethe the enthusiasm this group of senators have had and to see that they are really concerned for their department and the students as a whole This is definitely one of the most rewarding parts of being Its It's also been great working with all 7 members of the Executive Council and being a part of one of the most aggressive goal achieving groups of officers the Associated Students of Utah Tech have ever elected Im I'm excited about this college and the growth that is in store for it I would wOl d like to encourage students to become involved in student government ands and s j stu student ent elections I promise it will be a very rewarding experience as it has been for forme me J y Ag i t thanks anks for your j s f l. l r re to vi si sij tl t 9 y offices any time just east of the bo Bookstore Just to say hi or or to get involved Wes Barlow S Executive Vice President Q Y I I Executive Secretary I r n. n Dianna Ianna S. S Simpson Impson My job as Executive Secretary this year has been really exciting One of the the advantages of this position is being involved in hi both phases of government I have been involved in the Executive Council as a member who makes decisions and votes and as a secretary who takes all the minutes of the meetings I have also J j been involved in the Senate meet meetings where I also take the minutes Even though I Ido I 1 do not vote in S Senate nate meetings it is interesting to be present and to be a part of this 4 organization J My main job this year has been to provide accurate clearly written minutes of r i each of the meetings so that anyone who wasn't present can find out what went on I in any given meeting 1 I have kept in-depth in records of all resolutions or bills passed by the senate I g ft have provided each member of the Executive Council and Senate with copies of all all the necessary materials for the meetings If a resolution has been passed in th the f Senate it is my job to send the letters concerning these resolutions to the right t people As secretary for the Senate it is also my responsibility to keep a record of i who has been active on committees and other projects during the year L With the year coming to a a. a close cl se I am striving to put all the records in order so they will be ready to turn over to next years year's officers This year has been on one of my best here at and I feel being in the position of J Executive Secretary has helped me to grow substantially this year If I had the j choice to do it all over again I would make the same decisions I have loved every r minute I have spent as Executive Secretary Dianna Simpson C i Executive Secretary r. r Vice Pres of Activities Activities t. t 4 Linda Miller 7 I am the Activities Vice President My job this year is to offer to the students activities that were successful in past years and to create new ones for all to participate in and enjoy I feel I have accomplished that task Some of the activities I have scheduled are the traditional ones such as Welcome Back Week with free watermelon Pepsi and Coke skiing parties roller- roller skating days travel lecture films the Halloween activities ies the Childrens Children's Christmas Qu Party Valentines Valentine's Dinner Dan Dance e Easter Egg Hunt and A Dress for Success Seminar Then there are the new activities that were offered this year they are monthly daytime dances with break- break dancers belly dancers monthly i 1 childrens children's movies movies Free Parking Days J if and a Trivia Treasure Hunt The activity of which I am the V r i proudest is the All Night Long Special Olympics marathon dance This was the first year that All Night jLong 1 j Lo Long g went into operation This 1 activity was not only tons of fun we j i also helped support the Special Olympics o I 31 If you have any activities that you feel would be fun to initiate please stop by my office any time and talk to me about them Remember Spring Quarter is right around the corner and you aint seen nothing yet z Vice Pres of Publications Linda Strasburg y During my first week as Vice President of Publications and Editor of the Points West est Newspaper in June of 84 I was overwhelmed with the position and all the the- duties that went with the title I wondered what I had gotten myself into I dug right in and started to work and I also devised a plan My plan was to talk S two other competent people into sharing the work and the glory I also wanted someone to share the blame with I did find these two wonderful people Nance Hanson and Ed Lile Nances Nance's duties include copy editing and proof reading Eds Ed's duties are covering the photo journalism assignments and laying out the paper f My job is to coordinate assign and schedule reporters and photographs and to take care of the business end of the paper Along with the students in Roselyn Kirks Kirk's journalism class we make a great team our individual talents have S enhanced one anthers My position has rewards I love the immediate gratification of seeing the results S of our work each Friday I also enjoy the contacts and friendships I have made z during this year One of my goals starting office was to have the Art and the English Departments contribute to the paper The results have been dramatic Weve We've had some very J talented cartoonists last quarter and our English students have had some of 01 their writings published in weeks past Im I'm looking for the same talent and contributions for the duration of this year Our poetry and logo logo contests contests have had many participants and Points West has ended up with some excellent material Through these these- events we discovered that our college is bursting with talent that has an excellent application in Points West For the rest of the year I am planning a Career Development Seminar on May 3 and 4 will be bringing some very important and knowledgeable people to present the workshops If you are planning to get a job or you are in the process of mapping your career path you will want to attend Nance Ed and I are going to be very busy spring quarter
