| Show 1 Dislocated Workers To Retrain Friday the Department of Labor dispatched a grant to the Wasatch Front South Service Delivery Area and the to retrain dislocated copper and steel workers The year one-year award part of Title III funds of the Job Training Partnership Act A to be awarded at the discretion of the Secretary of Labor will be administered through UTah's Office of Job Training for t. t Eco Economic Development Dislocated workers participating in the program will receive retraining as truck drivers clerical workers computer programmers and repairmen and auto mechanics Participants will receive the on-the-job training classroom training and job search assistance copper and steel industries were re the hardest hit economically during the recent recession Thousands of workers lost their jobs Many have been unable to J find new employment This award is intended to h help lp those people still unemployed Hatch said Under A at least 70 percent of federal job training money is spent on actual training Hatch said Under the old CETA A program only 18 percent of the money spent actually helped people train for jobs This increased efficiency allows us to train more people for jobs while we reduce federal spending on the program People who find jobs through this latest grant benefit from a unique state-federal state program that gives us hope to balance the budget It puts Americans to work and it costs less money Hatch said |
