| Show Emergency Veterans Veteran's Job Training Act Extended Congressman Thomas a. a Daschle SD D-SD Chairman of of the House Veterans Veterans' s' s Affairs Subcommittee on Education Training and Employment has introduced legislation to extend the old month Emergency Veterans' Veterans J Job b Training Act The program was established to address chronic unemployment among Vietnam-era Vietnam and Korean conflict veterans by paying employers directly to train and hire them Now that the program is running smoothly following a very slow low startup startup startup start start- up period we want to give more veterans and employers an opportunity to help each other as well as the jy ty said i Daschle Since December of f 1983 this this this' program l has i s' s taken more mor than as of February 19 veterans off of the unemployment rolls and placed them back into productive jobs Still there are well over Vietnam- Vietnam era veterans out of work Id I'd say that's a strong argument for gr granting the program a little extra time Under the curr current nt provisions of the program potential veteran participants must have applied by February ry 28 1985 Daschle wants that date amended to December 31 1985 His measure the Veterans Veterans' Employment Amendments of 1985 HR 1408 would also amend the date by which a veteran must be enrolled in in inan an approved training program from September 1 1985 to July 1 1986 Daschle who was elected Chairman of the Subcommittee for the Congress calls the Emergency Veterans' Veterans Job Training Act a landmark program that based on its performance to date can substantially reduce veteran unemployment Daschle has scheduled a h hearing aring on the measure for March 19 at O pm p.m. room Cannon House Office Building Building Build Build- ing Washington DC D.C. |
