| Show Its Magic The Life Of A Magicians Assistant by Kevin Riley When the David Young magic show failed to unfold this reporter and staff photographer Mel Van Zeben were at a lost for a story until we spotted the lovely magician assistants just sitting looking bored On Mels we ventured over and much to our delight they consented to an interview Becky Collyer and Etel Englund were the assistants to Mr Young Both Becky and Etel are students at BYU and both write for THE DAILY UNIVERSE Becky has been with Mr Young the longest that being two years She covers the sports beat at the Y and believes that by selling the show to the crowd and getting them involved makes the show better for them and psyches her to give a better performance Like Becky Etel Englund is a student at BYU majoring in public relations Etel became an assistant when out outon outon outon on a story for the UNIVERSE was approached on the street and asked if she would like to become a magicians assistant That was two months ago Etel is originally from Sweden and has been in this country for three years Etel recounted the story when in the box into which twelve swords are thrust that once she was cut on the right arm Both Becky and Etel have vowed never to divulge how a trick works and when asked they just say you gotta believe or Its Magic |
