Show mobilization meeting san juan county mobilization committee met jan 11 1952 present were clement johnson chairman ajulian thomas forest ranger oris rudd extension service lynn aitken gordon L heaton soil conservation service and keith jewkes secretary agricultural production goals for 1952 were discussed it was stated that the major task for 1952 will be to increase the production of feed grains the grass lands lanas program and range seeding was discussed it was suggested by ranger thomas that in drawing up contemplated range management plans for participation under the 1952 agricultural conservation program all of the interested agencies bureau of land management forest service soil conservation service and production and marketing association be contacted in order that the entire 12 month grazing program could be considered to determine where improvements in in production could best be advanced it was su suggested that three or four ranchers be contacted who have been inclined toward soil conservation thinking and call them into an educational meeting to acquaint them with the objectives of this program since a 6 increase in production over the 1951 program is desired it is highly essential that the best possible cooperation be obtained the increase in feed production should be obtained in proper coordination with tho grass lands program in in order that soil can be kept at a mini mum that soil productivity may be built where possible to meet the demands of a continuous high level of gra grain i n production the feed situation was discussed in view of the weather conditions currently prevalent it appears that there will be some loss of sheep on the indian reservation quite a number of sheep and cattle were taken into other areas for wintering prior to the recent storms |
