Show dimes fund seeks to banish polio aimed at eventually making infantile paralysis rare as smallpox the 1952 march of dimes boomed into high gear here and communities throughout the nation today as the campaign for polio fighting funds entered the third week of the most critical drive in history of the national foundation for infantile paralysis we are more eager than ever to knock polio into the limbo of conquered diseases benion B e n i 0 n redd san juan county march of dimes director said because infantile paralysis is on the upsurge and is the only epidemic disease still on the increase in america mr redd called the campaign in this county one 0 of f the most important voluntary efforts ever made he asked every citizen who has not yet contributed this year to fight against infantile paralysis to do so at once lie he said this is more than just a fund raising drive it is a peculiarly individual appeal the fight against polio is fight because everybody is eager to provide our children with all the protection possible against this crippling disease scientists report that we are closing in on polio we are faced however with keeping scientists at work and caring for patients at the same time we must see the fight through with our dimes and dollars if we are to achieve final victory our local chapter of the national foundation must have funds with which to take care of those who need assistance when polio strikes national headquarters meanwhile has exhausted its funds for patient care for the fourth year ear in in a row it is in debt to hosp hospitals t als that have cared for pa that is ii why the drive has beer been expanded this year we have all worked harder in an effort to increase our total funds the local committee has been active for several months now we come to the final efforts effort these next three weeks with help of all our citizens can and must make this community commodity the greatest in history |
