Show blanding news BLANDING GIRL EMPLOYED IN NORTH DAKOTA miss margie hurst the daughter of philip and mable wright hurst spent the christmas holidays with her family in blanding for the past fourteen mo months margie has been working in north dakota for the north dakota chapter of the nationals Natio national nall I 1 society tor for crippled children I 1 and adults it is known as the East erseal service and in that state consists of the testing of speech and hearing in the pub lie lic school margie and two other girls from north and illinois who have their masters degree in this same field work together they drive a delivery truck that pulls a twenty foot trailer which serves as a home office and testing room for them they do a limited amount of therapy but most of their time is spent in examining and recommending I 1 the handicapped for treatment i in a town the s size ize of blanding they spend about two weeks finish in one county before they start in another miss hurst has spent the past fourteen months in north dakota and is very much interested in her work she received her er masters degree at the university iver sity of utah in sept 1950 she received her B A degree from the brigham young university missionaries WELCOMED HOME the blanding ward elders sponsored a welcome home it party recently for iwan black francis black and billy perkins who have spent the past two years in the mission field clyde harvey announced the following program short talks by frost black and the three missionaries who expressed their gratitude for the opportunities they have had and gave hum humorous erous bits from t their he i r missionary experiences vocal solos by dark clark harvey and josephine bayles and two saxophone sax aphone solos by francis lyman accompanied by lalah mathison most of the evening was spent in social dancing CHRISTMAS DANCE WELL ATTENDED the chrisom christman Chris 4 dance held at the S san an juan high school fari L T night i ind and sp sponsored 0 n s 0 red by the mutual officers of the blanding anti and grayson wards was a big success A large crowd attended to visit and dance with many of the friends they seen since last christmas or maybe longer mr william child enjoyed a holiday visit from his oldest son and wife from california norman and norma redd pierce and their five children spent several days at the home of mrs pierces mother mrs caroline redd they returned to their home in salt lake afton redd accompanied them the elk ridge cafe will be closed about the first of the year while an enlarging job is completed for several months the project has hasteen I 1 been in the process but no more can be done while it is in use A complete new kitchen has been made out of store room in the back and when the job is finished the old kitchen will be part of the new modern dining room in the near future mr and mrs bernard black will really have a modern up to date establishment mr and mrs mark redd came from kansas to spend christmas christma at the home of marks parents mr and mrs arr leland redd they left last wednesday 16 go to the home of mrs redds parents at west point utah where they will visit for a few days before mark has to go to the service bruce and dorothy hurst I 1 john and dorothy hurst andl and robert and judy hurst hartzell and their little girl and norman bugg were holiday visitors who were omitted when the first list of visitors was made some of the christmas decorations in blanding were very outstanding and beautiful this year the brightly lighted tree on the lawn at the home of johnny and minnie johnson and santa and his sleigh and reindeer high over their home made it worth your while to go past small trees around many of the homes added to the christmas spirit A large tree at the home of parley and agnes hurst was a lovely sight to see mrs mary stevens spent the holiday season at the home of her 1 SODD 0 ant and family in provo before she returns she will s spend P end some time with her sister alta wilcox in st george she expects to visit the salt lake st george and manti temples before her return mr afton carpenter who has been teaching english in the san juan high school the past two winters went to thatcher arizona to visit with his par 1 ens md aid other members of his fam family i ay during the holidays mr and mrs justin black eni joyed a ashert short visit from their daughter marilyn and her new husband jack ehler for several days the tha weekend before christmas the young couple went back to salt lake to be with ibis folks for christ 1 mas he is in the service and stationed in in california |
