Show SELLING WESTERN SCENERY TO WELL SATISFIED CUSTOMERS we were pleased to read the following editorial comment in the salt lake tribune of september ath to which we would add the name of S C richardson of detroit who made an extended trip through southeastern utah inthe in the spring and from whose letter we quoted in this paper several weeks ago mr richardson is showing his movie movie films and stills in many places throughout the east and is lecturing on the scenic beauty and natural wonders of our state with improved highways and a tendency on the part of travelers and all season tourists to visit western states it is certain many others will be coming our way soon the editorial follows travelers who stop over in utah for a few days always feel amply repaid for this interruption of their journeys for many years the outside world had a notion that the only purpose a globetrotter globe trotter could possibly have for pausing a few hours in salt lake city would be to see the mormon temple hear the tabernacle organ glance at the lake and take the next conveyance going his way due to persistent appeals of the local chamber of commerce booklets of advertising matter distributed by the railway corporations pages of popular publications utilized by the salt lake publicity commission illustrated lectures delivered all over the continent by randall S jones and the scenic editions of the salt lake tribune issued periodically and distributed in all states and civilized countries tourists have come to regard this intermountain empire as a wonderland that cannot be left out of any well planned itinerary from europe south america and australia men and women of experience and education people who have seen the world and its show places have come here during the past few years to marvel at the charm and splendor of canyons and national park reservations twenty officials of the american express travel service seeking information to pass along to the public enjoyed a brief sojourn in this vicinity recently to rhapsodize over the city its setting its central location for scenery and the picturesque appearance of the entire region leu leo A borah author and explorer a resident of washington city and a member of the editorial staff of the national geographic magazine declared the other day that 9 understatement is the only crime I 1 ever committed in describing utah such impressions gained by visitors upon whose words millions may ponder indicate the value of scenic attractions which are auctioned off by strangers bought by other strangers sold and resold season after season with all purchasers satisfied and no diminution of supply it is a business to cultivate for its value and possibilities are incalculable cu lable |
