Show TOWN TOW ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR nomination FOR ELEC TION OF MUNICIPAL OFFICERS be it ordained by the board of trustees of town of monticello utah sec 1 that on tuesday next following the first monday in november 1939 and biennially thereafter there shall be held in monticello town an election to fill all elective offices to be vacated the first monday of january next following sec 2 there shall be elected in the year 1939 and biennially thereafter a president of the town board and f four our trustees to be elected at large for a term of two years sec 3 political parties organizations or associations may call or hold primary elections for the election selection of delegates to a conven tion for the purpose of nomina nominating candidates for said election or may hold mass primaries for the purpose of nominating said candidates candidate sand and may appoint presiding officers and judges of election ejection at any primary election that they may deem proper sec 4 A convention within the meaning of this ordinance is an organized assemblage of voters or delegates representing a political party which at the election prior to the holding of such convention polled at least 2 per cent of the entire vote cast in said town for f or president of board of trustees A committee appointed by any such convention may also make nominations to public office or fill an any y vacancies in the nominations nomination made by the convention when authorized to do so by resolution duly passed by the convention at which such committee was appointed provided that nothing in this section shall be construed as to authorize any 7 number of voters con bention or committee of any political party to nominate more than one g group of candidates or have placed on the official ballot more than one group of candidates or more than one ticket by adopting any name emblem or device of the political party represented by the voters committee or convention making such nomination provided further that any voters convention or committee of any political party may nominate any one or more persons who may have been nominated by any other voters convention or committee hut thel in making such nomination the name of such nominee shall be placed upon the regular ticket of the political party represented by the voters convention or committee making such nomination and no political party shall be permitted to have cave placed upon the official ballot either directly or indirectly more than one group of candidates or to group the same persons on different tickets by the t same party under a different name or emblem sec 5 all nominations made bv such convention or committee shall be certified as follows the certificate of nomination shall be in writ writing inix containing the name of the office for which each person is nomi nominated bated the name post office address and residence of each such much person and shall designate in in not more than five words the party which such convention or committee represents and shall contain a statement that the name of any candidate will not appear on the official ballot otherwise than as a candidate of the political party for which such certificate is made it shall be signed by the presiding officer and secretary of the convention or committee in mit attee tee who shall add to their signatures their addresses and make an oath before an officer qualified to administer the sa same that the were such 0 officers bets of such convention or committee and that statements therein contained are true to their vest best knowledge and belief when nomination is made by a committee there shall be attached thereto a resolution of the convention authorizing thor izing such committee to make such nomination see sec 6 the certificate of nomination of candidates shall defiled be filed with the town clerk not more than forty nor less than thirty days before the election any person nominated may within twenty five days prior to the election in writing duly signed and acknowledged notify the town clerk that he has declined the nomination in which event said nomination shall be void and the name of such candidate shall not be printed upon the party ticket certifying his nomination in the event that any person nominated resigns or declines his nomination as herein provided ar or dies before election day or if any certificate of nomination is insufficient or not operative the vacancy thus occasioned may not less than twenty days before the election be filled in the manner required for the original nomination sec 7 A list of all nominations shall be posted by the town clerk in at least six conspicuous places in said town five days prior to the election or may be published twice in a newspaper published in said town one of which shall be in the last issue before the election the town clerk shall five days prior to the election cause six sample ballots to be delivered to each registration agent and voting place and the same shall be posted for public inspection ane one sample ballot shall be placed in in each voting place sec 8 in the opinion of the board of trustees it is necessary to the peace health and safety of the inhabitants of monticello town that this ordinance become effective immediately sec 9 this ordinance shall take effect upon its first
