Show special hunting of elk and deer to be permitted A lengthy proclamation by the state board of big game control and state game refuge committee under date of august 31 contains the following highlights it having been found that elk have increased in numbers to an extent that a limited number may be taken without detriment to the elk herds of utah an open season has been de clayed from november 1 to november 10 1939 both dates inclusive during which elk may be legally killed in utah nontransferable non transferable permits to the number of for hunting elk will be sold to residents of utah for 10 each and for 50 to non residents all applications for permits must be in the office of the state fish and game commissioner not later than aco pm on october 5 1939 all applications shall state choice of territory and sex of animal to be taken if applications exceed number of permits allotted to each territory a drawing will be held at p m on october 11 1939 to determine the names of lucky applicants it also having been found that deer have increased to a point where it is deemed advisable to make special removals on certain areas of the state special permits will be for the ailing of deer in addition to those taken during the open season the special deer hunt shall be from october 21 to october 31 1939 both dates inclusive special deer permits will be sold to residents of utah who have a license to hunt big game for and for to residents without such big game license for to non residents having a non resi dent big game license and for 20 to non residents not having such big game license no gun smaller than calibre shall be used to hunt elk deer may not be hunted with revolvers pistols shotguns nor with rifles of 22 calibre except a 22 high power 22 hornet or a 22 swift it is declared unlawful to hunt bunt deer with the aid of dogs or artificial light of any kind on one preserve only bows and arrows are to be permitted for further details this proclamation may be seen in full at the record office |
