Show soil conservation service moves to san juan county As forecast in the last issue of the record the lecal camp is now an animated spot with nearly men quartered here while it is commonly called a camp in reality the local organization is assigned to the soil conservation er service and is therefore properly a camp this is the organization which wintered at moab and has been moved to monticello for the summer W W west is the superintendent in charge of the camp amp ind dave evans forestry technician and W F cole acting camp conservationist are assisting in planning and directing the activities which will largely be applied on the la sal and blue mountain area but work may be undertaken by cooperative agreement with the lessees lessels or owners of land any place in the adjacent territory under these working agreements which are separately anh and specifically negotiated the arrangement much the same as under the contracts the government furnishing the labor and the sponsor the equipment materials arid and supplies the saving of soil and water are the primary objects sought the work contemplated this season is similar dissimilar to that prosecuted by johnny redd last year and represents one of the government activities undertaken under the present administration to aid the farmer and livestock man while at the same time furnishing jobs to the unemployed As in the past the camp is under army supervision and regulation with the following officers in charge first thomas B carnahan jr cavalry reserve commanding officer first frank pritchard caa res junior officer dr gale W anderson camp surgeon and howard benson educational cat ional advisor |
