Se 11th East City SIMPSON TASK FORCE IN CUT-THRU PUSH The Simpson avenue cut-through from Highland Drive to Ninth East took a definite move forward for-ward this week as members of the Sugar House chamber of commerce com-merce and city officials reviewed the proposal. Commissioners L. C. Romney and Joe L. Ghristensen, together with City Engineer Roy McLeese, met with the Simpson avenue task meeting with Commissioner Romney Rom-ney under the direction of Chairman Chair-man L. L. Halversen, learned that the old Sugar House Park east and south of Mclntyre Center, can be made into a commodious parking park-ing lot. This off-street lot would accommodate accom-modate employes of Sugar House concerns, and maps were drawn showing how ingress and egress could be made from the area for the convenience of off-street park-ers. force under the direction of Chairman Vern W. MacKay. McLeese said the cut-through was in accord with Salt Lake City plans and engineering programs, and both commissioners gave their nod of approval to the street which would break the bottleneck between be-tween Highland Drive and Ninth East street. D. James Cannon, chamber executive ex-ecutive secretary, was given the go-ahead to present the proposal to the city commission. Meanwhile, a protest from 36 residents of the neighborhood filed a protest with the commission, commis-sion, objecting to the cut-through, "because it would cut to pieces" Fairmont park. However, it was also pointed out that the Simpson avenue cut-through cut-through would skirt the edge of the park and would disturb the park but little and would lend itself it-self well to the traffic, growth and progress of the southeast.
