Show SCHOOL STUDY PLANS TOLD BY COMMISSION In a report to educators, legislators, legisla-tors, businessmen, Dr. Adams S. Bennion Thursday afternoon outlined out-lined the general items on which the Utah Public School Survey Commission will make recommendations recommen-dations to the state legislature when it convenes in January. The report was made at the annual an-nual Education-Business Institute, sponsored by the Salt Lake City chamber of commerce. The Institute Insti-tute was held at South high school. Dr. Bennion said that the Commission Com-mission would make recommendations recommenda-tions in each of the study's six fields finance, instruction, administration, admin-istration, staff personnel, pupil personnel per-sonnel and plant-supplies-transportation. Recommendations will be made on administrative manpower school building program, extra-curricular activities , teacher training programs pro-grams in Utah colleges, and federal aid to schools. According to Dr. Bennion a study is being made to "make teacher salaries in some way commensurate with teaching talent." Some results of results of an academic aca-demic achievement test amng 6th and 11th grade students were revealed. re-vealed. It was found that Utah students are higher than national average in natural sciences, mathematics, math-ematics, exactly average in social sciences. Howard Price, president of Salt Lake City chamber of commerce; Lorin Wheelwright, local musical educator; Dr. H. Grant Vest, executive execu-tive secretary of the Commission, and member of the Logan city school system all spoke before Dr. Bennion's address. The South high a'capella choir sang a medley and several single numbers. |
