Show f I . i 4' J .1 . . r , r i : LL .Li .J PARSONS START SEASOII WITH VICTORY This looks like the year Westminster West-minster College fooball fans have been waiting for. The Parson opened its 1955 season sea-son last Saturday with a hard-fought hard-fought 15-7 victory over Eastern Oregon College of Education. Ricks College of Rexburg, Idaho, will play the Parsons here Oct. 1, and that game, coupled with the finale of the year against Western West-ern New Mexico, now stand as the two big ones on the Parson's slate. This week Westminster travels to Carroll, Montana, for its second game of the year. In last Saturday's game with EOCE, the Parsons looked strong for a first game occasion. The Parsons rolled for a total of 315 yards to 221 for the Oregon team. In the first half Eastern Oregon was able to pick up only 1 yards rushing as the strong Westminster line held firm. The Parsons got two points early in the game by tackling an Oregon punter behind his goal line. They I COACH AL, MERCER he coached at Canon City high, Cyprus high and Palo Alto high school. At Cyprus high he played for state championship three years and during his stay at Palo Alto the team lost one game in two years. scored a touchdown in the second quarter when quarterback Gary Nauman climaxed a long drive by sneaking over from the one. Don DeLude converted. The final Parson touchdown was scored in the third quarter on a 35 yard pass from Nauman - to end Darrell Brady. Eastern Oregon scored its only touchdown in the second quarter on a pass from Arlen Smith to Terry Ziegenbagen. Parson standouts in the game were Nauman, Brady, Mitch Mak-ris, Mak-ris, Howard Condie, Ned Dalton, Bill Coggins, DeLude, Al Daniels, Dale Thibault and Bob Nielsen. Alvin R. Meroer began his first year at the college providing a background of success in all sport fields. He is a graduate of the Canon City, Colo., high school, attended at-tended Western State, Washington State, University of Utah and San Jose State Colleges, where he received re-ceived honors in football, basketball, basket-ball, baseball and track.
