Show by fondness for and success in sports. RHODES STUDY APPLICATIONS DATED BY U. U. Application for Rhodes Scholarships Scholar-ships has- been set for Nov. 1, Dr. W. Harold Dalgliesh, professor of history at the University of Utah and institutional representative, said this week. Selection will be made In December, De-cember, with winning candidates to enter Oxford University in England Eng-land in October, 1956. Candidates may file either in the state in which they reside or in any state in which they have received at least two years of college-level education, Dr. Dalgliesh Dal-gliesh said. Rhodes Scholarships are worth about $1500 per year. No restrictions restric-tions are placed upon choice of studies, and students studying un der the GI Bill of Rights will receive similar benefits at Oxford. To be eligible a candidate must: 1. Be a male citizen of the United States with at least five years of domicile and unmarried. 2. Be between 19 and 25 years of age on Oct. 1, 1956 (candidates over the age limit with 90 days of active duty with U. S. armed services since June 27, 1950, may deduct the period of his service from his age). 3. Be at least a junior in some recognized degree-granting college or university in the U. S. 4. Receive official endorsement of his college or university. Selections will be based upon (1) literary and scholastic ability and attainment; (2) qualities of manhood, man-hood, truthfulness, courage devotion devo-tion to duty, sympathy, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship; (3) exhibition of moral force of character char-acter and. of instincts to lead and to take an interest in his fellows, and (4) physical vigor as shown |
