Show Local junior Baseball Champs Feted at Turkey Banquet Sugar House Post 65-Petty Motor Company's state championship champion-ship American , Legion baseball team was given a farewell banquet ban-quet Monday evening at the Post's headquarters, The Rock Castle, 21st South and 21st East. Dignitaries from the American Legion Le-gion Ford Motor Company and the Sugar House Chamber of Commerce participated. Hosts of the gala event were manager-Post athletic Officer Styles C. "Clay" Mills, and Coach Grant Woodward. Two beautiful trophies were presented and each member of the team was given a leather picture frame and photograph ol the championship team. FRED SANFORD Star of the evening was Fred Sanford, local baseball hero who was a member of this year's world championship New York Yankee team. Mr. Sanford spoke at the banquet and participated par-ticipated in an after dinner discussion dis-cussion with the players and guesta Autographed baseballs wer presented to the Post, Petty Motor Company and to pretty Marilyn Francis, the team's official of-ficial scorekeeper who also attended. at-tended. GUESTS Honored guests included Chris Butt, secretary of the Legion's Le-gion's District 3, Dan Hayes, editor of Utah Legionnaire; Petty Motor Co.'s manager, Jack Elledge and Charles Miller; Ford Motor Company's Douglas Andrew and LeRoy Michaels; Fred W. Lawson, secretary of the Sugar House Chamber of Commerce. The turkey dinner was put on by the Post's long-time athletic, enthusiast, Ab Ward. |
