Show VOLLEYBALL XEAMS VIE FOR HONORS 'i By BOB 9TAYNER 'Sixteen of the finest volleyball volley-ball teams in the country are fighting it oirt for All-Church honors currently at Deseret Gym. These sixteen teams have been playing league matches since March and have come to the All-Church from 65 teams that registered as eligible. Salt Lake sports fans and members of wards participating in the play may see volleyball as it should be played until May 13. There are too many fans that have played at this sport never really knew the real Vwffs and regulations. Dave Lundquist, who is running run-ning the finals off, has a very full program. There are four matches an evening. Each match is two out of three games. On an average the games last 15 minutes or the match about 45 minutes. This might vary a bit but should average out because of close competition. Three referees are on hand at each match. These gentlemen were donated by the State Referees Ref-erees Association. Like all other MIA sports events, volleyball has its set of eligibility rules. If yoti have seen the rules" of basketball, baseball and softball, you will have an idea. The only place they differ is in the age group. Each team places six players on the floor at one time, but may substitute at any time. The player leaving the game may not return during that one game. This means a team may have any number of players play-ers on its roster. The teams that were at the tape first this 1950 season were as follows: Thirty-fourth, Beacon, North ISth, North 21st, 19th, Bountiful Second, 12th, -'Park Ave. or Stratford, 27th, North 17th, Liberty, Lib-erty, Bountiful 5th, Bryan, Stadium Sta-dium Village 2SLh, and North 20th Wards. Paik Ave.' and Stratford Wards have a match to play to see which goes in. |
