Show Street Dept. Ignores 27th South WE PROTEST! We don't believe it is fair for the city to leave one heavily traveled street in a state of disrepair and, on the other hand, curry another city thoroughfare to the point that it hasn't a ripple in it. We would like to see some statistics on the comparison of traffic borne by 27th South with that of South Temple Street. It is our humble belief that 27th South carries as much traffic on the basis of its width as does South Temple. And the traffic burden on 27th South is getting greater every day. As we drove up South Temple the other day we noticed the street department trucks out doing something or other to make driving more pleasurable on that excellent 4-lane thoroughfare. We drive up 27th South every day, and for -weeks (and months) that street has been shaking up cars and motorists with its rippled and pockmarked surface. In order or-der to save a little wear and tear the motorist is obliged to execute the course like a quarterback practicing against would-be tacklers. At the busy hours of the day, however, he must stick to his lane and take the bumps and jolts as they come. The fact that 27th South has just two lanes of traffic is bad enough. The street's deplorable condition in the face of increasing usage is almost beyond understanding. We sympathize with the problems of the city street de-paitmenl. de-paitmenl. We know their facilities are taxed to the limit. Cut the department ought to do first things first. In our language that means the streets in the worst condition and bearing heavy traffic. In our language that means 27th South. |
