Show Rotary Hears Talk on China A discussion of the Chinese character and the background of the present strife between the nationalists and communists of China was given to members of Sugar House Rotary by Dr. Philip B. Price of the University Univer-sity of Utah medical school faculty at the club's regular luncheon at Weasku Inn Thursday. Thurs-day. A resident of China for many years, Dr. Price said the people are inherently strongly democratic demo-cratic though racially proud and distinctive and confident of their destiny as one of the great powers of the world. He said much of the present con fusion is due to the sprawling nation's lack of communication and tansportation, as well as to the failure of other nations to understand the Chinese philosophy. philoso-phy. Sun Yat Sen, the father of modern China, he characterized character-ized as a "Tom Paine" rather than as a "George Washington," a man of wisdom and ideals but lacking executive and leadership qualities. Chiang Kai-Shek, he said, was implementing Sun's policies effectively up to the time of the war. He expressed the belief that ultimately China would attain its rightful place j as one of the great democratic i powers of the world. |
