Show Leave Us Face It There's 'Duffy's Tavern' at the Mario Looking over the roster of stars appearing in "Duffy's Tavern" which opened Thursday Thurs-day at the Mario, any movie fan would sit back and purr contentedly, for the list includes such big names as Bing Crosby, Betty Hutton. Paulette Ooddard. Alan Ladd, Eddie Bracken. Dor-othy Dor-othy Lamoiir. Brian Tlonlevy. Sonny Tufts, Veronica Lake. Art uro de Cordova. Bam' Fitzgerald, Fitzger-ald, Marjorie Reynolds, Victor Moore and Barry Sulivan. And that isn't all. Film audiences and airwave addicts had a chance to see as wed as hear Ed Gardner, the word-mangling "Archie" of radio who has been flooring countless enthusiastic listeners for some time now. Of course the story revolves around the well-known eatery which might be located anywhere any-where along New York's picturesque pic-turesque Third Avenue from the Bowery to ''Scratch Park." Archie's Ar-chie's slanguage, however, is his own original lingo. As for the popularity of "Duffy's Tavern." Archie blames it on his "personal "person-al maggotism." The trouble is (and there's plenty of same) Archie doesn't know who lo blame for the M200, cash deficit which overtakes Duffy's account books. As Archie would say. "leave us face it we're in a jam." |
