Chamber Members Nominate Six For Board Offices Six candidates for the board of directors of the Sugar House Chamber of Commerce were elected Tuesday at the monthly lunchi-eon lunchi-eon meeting, three of whom will be selected in the final election to be held Oct. 21. The three new board members with the four incumbent directors will select a president and other officers at their first board meeting following the Oct. 21 general membership member-ship meeting. The six candidates in the order of their total-vote are: M. L. "Bud" Brain, Grant Midgley, D. James Cannon, Dale R. Curtis, John W. Boud and Hiram C. Young. John C. Barnes received' enough votes to qualify in the first six, but he asked that his name be withdrawn. Mr. Barnes explained that he felt he could better serve the chamber "on the outside." (Note: A story telling of Mr. Barnes' work on street lighting is told elsewhere in this issue). Mr. Young, next in line in point of votes, was named the other candidate. Voting was done on a large ballot containing the names of all chamber members except those who are current board members and those whose terms have expired and are not eligible eli-gible for 1 reelection. Board members whose terms extend for one more year are: Ray E. I Nilson, 1947 president, Ray Free, 2nd vice president, Paul Pehrson, secretary - treasurer, and Sidney J. Ottley, director. ' During the counting of votes by Mr. Pehrson and Mr. Ottley, President Nilson conducted discussion dis-cussion on future Sugar House promotions. Many of the members mem-bers expressed their desire to have available funds spent for a celebration in conjunction with the new street lighting system and the Christmas holt-days. holt-days. The six candidates up for election for two year terms on the chamber board are all local business men, except Mr. Boud who is a practicing Sugar House attorney.
