Show Tragic Blaze Destroys Prized Show Horses, Stables of C. P. Rudd Tragedy struck at the residence of Charles P. Rudd, 3G08 South 23rd East, when a fire razed the stables, burning to death two prized show horses and 30 blooded rabbits and de- stroying hundreds of dollars worth of equipment and property. prop-erty. Wreck on Way to Fire Coincident with the fire was a spectacular automobile wreck at 4.r)th South and 23rd East Sts., in which four persons were injured, including assistant fire chief C. A. Robinson. The accident ac-cident occurred when a car driven by Fire Chief Jack Clay and a vehicle driven by George W. Cardwell c61lided. The chief's car was en route to scene of the fire. Destroyed in the fire were two valuable horses belonging to Mr. Rudd, Promenade and Misty, American saddle horses. Both horses had won numerous honors in horse shows threrUgh-out threrUgh-out the intermountain area. Promenade was an outstanding performer in the recent horse show presented by the East Mill Creek Lions Club. Fight Maze in Vain Neighbors and passers - by vainly attempted to fight the flames after the blaze was discovered dis-covered and reported by Mrs. A. M. Mulcock shortly ater 11 p.m. By the time the county fire department arrived, the stable was a blazing inferno. A chicken coop bordering the corral cor-ral was saved by those wi helped fight the blaze, however. Origin of the fire was undetermined, unde-termined, according to Chief Clay of the Salt Lake County Fire Department. In addition to the horses and rabbits, the fire destroyed saddles, sad-dles, bridles and other riding equipment, a show buggy, a $300 tractor, plumbing fixtures intended for a home being built by a son of Mr. Rudd and other tools and miscellaneous equipment equip-ment stored in the stable. Injured in Collision Injured in the 2-car collision were: , C. A. Robinson, assistant fire chief, -19, 17!) Mountain View Drive, Murray, chest injuries; Mrs. H. S. "Florence, 55, 4308 Wander Lane head gash; Mr. Cardwell. broken right knee and lip lacerations, and his wife, Betty W. Cardwell, 27, head and knee injuries. All were treated at Salt Lake General Hospital. Mr. Robinson died of internal injuries Thursday at 11:45 a.m. in a local hospital. |
