Show Local Police Nab Industrial School Youths Escapees Wreck Car After 80-MPII Chase Local officers had their hands full for a few minutes early Monday morning when two youthful escapees from the Utah Industrial School, Ogden, led them on a merry chase through southeast Salt Lake residential districts. Sugar House police officers T. A. Diamond and D. T. Roberts Rob-erts were cruising along Highland High-land Drive at 12:30 a-m. Monday Mon-day morning. At 2200 South St. they saw a car speed out of an alley and take off north up Highland Drive at an excessive ex-cessive speed. They started in pursuit. - ' Phase Through S. H. The chase led through the Sugar Su-gar House business district, down 21st South to 10th East, north to 1900 South. The officers offi-cers reported that speed reached reach-ed and was in excess of 80 miles per hour on several different occasions throughout the chase. At Princeton Ave. and 9th East, the auto got out of control con-trol as the young driver attempted at-tempted to make the turn. . The car struck a culvert, glanced off a tree and landed on the parking. park-ing. The two occupants suffered suffer-ed minor injuries and were taken tak-en to Salt Lake General hospital hos-pital for treatment. The Industrial School escapees es-capees told Officer Diamond that the car they wrecked was the third they had stolen since they escaped Thursday night, Oct. 7. Both youths were 15 years old. |
