Show Improvement of Fishing Seen A new device believed to be unique has been perfected at the Springville State Hatchery and is one of several improvements during the past year expected to put more trout in Mr. Average Aver-age Fisherman's creel next season sea-son "This device takes advantage of the natural instinct of tisn to run during spawning season," according to M. J. Madsen, superintendent su-perintendent of fisheries man- agement, Utah Fish, and Game Commission. Describing the innovation in a report to Director Ross Leonard, Leon-ard, the fisheries supervisor-said supervisor-said "it will aid materially in saving time and labor and contribute con-tribute to greater production during spawning season." Other improvements accomplished accom-plished at the Springville hatchery hatch-ery during 1945 include: 1. A fry pond has been added add-ed to the system and new bottoms bot-toms have been poured in tw.-of tw.-of the older ponds. 2. A complete new drainage system has been built, making it possible to clean and drain each pond separately. Heretofore, Hereto-fore, the ponds were connected and none could be drained and cleaned without harmful effects on all the other ponds. Net result: re-sult: A much higher percentage in maturing fry to legal size trout. |
