Show Postal Figures Show Growth of Southeast Area Tremendous growth of the southeast area in the past ten years is reflected in comparative compara-tive figures ort 1934 and 1944 compiled by Supt.' C. A. Crock-well Crock-well of the Sugar House post office station and released this week. Final figures for 1945 are not yet available, but the ten year period gives a fair idea of what has happened out this way. and it is recognized that the increase in all types of postal service has increased even more in the past year than in any of the previous years Stamp sales in 1944 totaled Slll.661.fin as compared witi-$29,405 witi-$29,405 in 1934, an increase of 279 per cent. Pieces of registered mail jumped from 2214 to 5782. an increase of 161 per cent; insured in-sured mail from 7593 to 37,954. an increase of almost 400 per cent, and money orders from .10.742 to 26,320, an increase of 145 per cent. Whereas in 1934 there were 26 carrier routes operating out of Sugar House and making 11,-446 11,-446 delivery stops, there were by 1944 a total of 44 carrier routes, making a total of 18,003 daily stops . . . and the average daily mail handling figure jumped from 15,916 pieces in 1934 to 37,-876 37,-876 in 1944 an increase of 138 per cent The population served by the local station was listed in 1934 at 45,784, and ten years later it was set at 73,132, an increase of 59 per cent, and the population growth in the pas' twelve months will boost this total sub-sanially. sub-sanially.
