ABC SIGNS COMEDIANS The American Broadcasting Company today (August 7) signed Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, famed raio, stage and screen comedians, come-dians, to a five-year contractunder the terms of which the 'famous comedy team will be sponsored on a co-operative basis, it was announced today by Murray Grab-horn, Grab-horn, Supervisor of ABC's Co-operative Program Department and Herbert Rosenthal, Vice President of Music Corporation of America. In a precedent establishing plan set up and developed by Charles C. Barry, Vice-President in charge of programs, Abbot and Costello will be made available to local sponsors in every part of the United States and Canada. The time at which the two comics will be heard will be announced early next week. This marks the first time a major comedy program has been made available to local sponsors spon-sors throughout the country. The program will be specially transcribed trans-cribed in Hollywood. Long one of the most popular comedy acts in all show business, Abbott and Costello during the ' four years they were on the air for R. J. Reynolds Tabacco Company Com-pany ran up a highly impressive rating figure. The average Hooper for the full four years was 17.7 and at various times they have easily topped 20. Their peak Hooper was 24.6. |
