Show I DOING THE TOWN I By Elaine A. Cannon It's the time of paper hats and novelties . . . confetti and horns . . . bells and sirens . . . dish pans and tablespoons . . . resolutions and remembrances. Suddenly it's New Years and we wonder where the time has gone and with it many of the unrealized dreams of our hearts . . . But it was a good year for Southeasterners . . . remember? There was the big dinner dance given by the East Mill Creek ! Lions Club for their Ladies last spring . . . the benefit concert of the Orpheus Club in Granite Stake Hall . . . The Spring Style Show on the plaza and the celebration of the founding of Sugar House nearly 100 years ago. Got legislative action for a state park on the prison site. Did ourselves proud welcoming the SUP caravan car-avan home from their trek across the plains in July. We opened new businesses by the scores The Stork Set Shop, DeHaan Wallpaper Wall-paper Co., Book Nook, Beau Brummel Restaurant, 2x4 Paint Store, Southeast Camera ... Comes the winter season and we applaud the Granite Arts concert programs . . . elected Ray Free new president of the Chamber of Commerce. We thronged through our wonderful furniture stores at the time of the Furniture Fashion Show . . . and took the kiddies to see Santa come to town. . . Yes, it has been a good year. A lot of our activities are but a memory now, but there is another 365 days ahead in which we can have ourselves a time at community doings. At the close of Utah's Centennial Year we find Southeasterners Southeastern-ers doing a little of everything that's social. Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Ward had a fancy Yuletkle buffet spread for 16 friends long red candles in silver candelabra cast a rosy glow over a table richly set and heavily laden with "goodies." Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Tanner drove in from Layton. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph B. Wirthin, Mr. and Mrs. J. Alan Jensen, the Lyle Wards and the Jack Adamsns, Dr. and and Mrs. Bud Jackson, Jack-son, Scott and Agnes Clawson were on the guest list. Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Romney have issued invitations to guests to come gather in their play room New Year's for some food and fi-i-n TTMQirto anr? rlantrhfor move on to Arizona to spend the winter months. Mr.' and Mrs. Wayne F. Richards Rich-ards are planning clever games for the guests that are going to spend New Year's Eve in their home. Many a southeasterner will be ringing their doorbell on Logan Ave. that night. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Haley and 2-year-old Scott came home for the holidays. Mrs. Haley is the former Norma Hammond, you know, and has been doing her wifely duties in Washington Washing-ton while hubby works there. fun. Elame and daughter, Ruthie, recently returned from a quick tour of Idaho where the talented four-year-old offspring of the Romneys played the piano for enthusiastic audiences. Dr. and Mrs. Glen R. Anderson Ander-son and the Stephen G. Coveys each of whom have a daughter and a son-in-law and a grandchild grand-child in the sunny state are spending some time in California. Califor-nia. The Andersons visited with Elaine and Bill Price and son Billy. Mr. and Mrs. Covey took three other children along to see Irene and Cal Gaddis and their tiny daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Parley Eccles have been in town for the holiday's holi-day's but Los Angeles claims them next. From there they'll |
