Show Carelessness Causes Forest Fire Losses Some examples of carelessness, careless-ness, the greatest cause of forest fires, were noted this week by W. E. Tangren, Assistant As-sistant Forester-Firewarden at the State Board of Forestry and Fire Control. According to Mr. Tangren, "A fire in hand is worth two in the bush." Examples One fire set to burn out a rattlesnake liked the job so much that it overran the mountain moun-tain hunting more . rattlesnakes. A discarded cigarette butt blew smoke back into the smoker's smok-er's face when it set the hunting hunt-ing camp on fire. Fire made to smoke a squirrel out of its hole slipped away and burned a hillside. A yellow jacket stung lineman so lineman set fire to yellow jacket's nest and the burning nest set fire to range land. Boy with matches in back pocket slid down large rock. Matches ignited, singed the boy and started a grass fire. TTrMi niil lii iii"T j-r. m |
