Treasurer CARL LARSEN BY MEL WRIGHT Chairman Club Publicity Committee May we extend to the three families of Holladay our deepest sympathy at this time of sorrow sor-row and bereavement. To Lion Li land Tuft ami Lioness Tuft at the untimely loss of their son, Leland Jr., who succumbed to injuries suffered in an automobile automo-bile accident last Thursday early. To Mr. and Mrs. Earl S. Rhodes whose son, Gary, also died of injuries suffered in this same accident. To the family of Stan Livingston who passed away Friday morning following a prolonged illness. Lion Stan was a charter member of our rlub and manager of the Livingston Liv-ingston Lumber-Furniture, and Hardware Co. He was past president pres-ident of the Holladay Businessmen's Business-men's League prior to that organization or-ganization becoming the Holladay Holla-day Linns Club. Stan was very active in church and civic affairs af-fairs up until the time that his illness forced him to give up part of his activities. The community com-munity will miss this outstanding outstand-ing leader. To two other families may we extend to them our wishes for the speedy recovery of their son and daughter. Lion and Lioness Earl l'.elnap's son, Reed, who is in the hospital recovering from injuries suffered in the accident that claimed the lives of Mr. Tuft and Mr. Rhodes. Also to Mr. and Mrs. Glen Fagg for the speedy recovery of their daughter, daugh-ter, Joyce who was injured in the same accident. At our regular monthly business busi-ness meeting held Nov. 21 at the Olympus Junior High school. Lion Otto , Lohmoulder, chairman chair-man of the education committee gave us a five-minute talk on Lionism, outlining the growth and development of Lions International Inter-national since its inception. It was a fine job, Lion Otto. We need more of this in our club. Lion J. R. Nichol gave a report re-port on the committee's visit to the Salt Lake county commission commis-sion regarding the new community com-munity building and informed j the club members present that I the contract would be let before be-fore the first of the year. President Arch, who hy the way, spent the last week end with friends and relations down in St. George and Cedar City, read invitations from the Draper Lions club to attend their annual Thanksgiving turkey shoot, last Sunday, Nov. 24. I hope that every Holladay Lion brought back a turkey for the big day. The other invitation was from Zone Chairman Bay Miller giving giv-ing us some additional information informa-tion on the annual zone party to be held Dec. 11 at the Avalon ballroom. May we again remind re-mind every Holladay Lion that be and his partner are invited as guests of the club. There will be no admission charge, just come and bring your partner. The speaker of the evening was Newell W. Pfckett from the Utah State health department. Mr. Pickett gave us a very good picture on sewage disposal in Salt Lake county at present and what the plans were for the future fu-ture if we, the people, were interested in-terested enough to get behind the proposed seWer project and push it. Mr. Pickett told us that health in Salt Lake county was dependent on cleanliness and that cleanliness was dependent on proper means of sewage disposal. dis-posal. That there was no such thing as a good cesspool and the only way to dispose of pubile filth was to put into Salt Lake county the first sewer system in an unincorporated area. He also informed those present pres-ent that four out of the seven present sewer systems in in the greater Salt Lake area were not satisfactory. Already some 2500 I people in Salt Lake county have petitioned the county commis- sion for a sewer system that will call for an outlay of some $2 million. This will cost the property prop-erty owners of Salt Lake county who will be served by this sewage sew-age disposal district less than $400 each over a period of 13 years which is less than the cost of two cesspools.. In the very near future every property owner will receive a registered letter telling of this plan. We as property owners in Salt Lake County cannot afford to let this opportunity pass by. We started start-ed pushing this program back some few years ago. Let's stay right in there now and help carry this program to a successful success-ful conclusion. Remember only one meeting to be held next month. That meeting will be on Dec. 12 at Andy's. The business meeting has been dropped so as not to conflict with Christmas. Dis. Gov. Lloyd M, Theurer was appointed superintendent of the Cache county school district at a special meeting of the board held Saturday, Nov. 23. Governor Gover-nor Lloyd had been executive secretary of the board for the past 15 years, and will take over his new office on Dec. 2. Our hearty congratulations, Governor Gover-nor Theurer! Another meeting was held Nov. 25 with the members of the new Highland Lions club. A very fine group of businessmen were present and everything is set for the election of officers to be held on Dec. 9. By the looks of things at this writing the new club will be chartered with more than 35 members. The committee on this new club has been meeting with the fellows regularly and are doing a grand job. |
