Show around the CO r i W In I j SUGAR HOUSE E! 1 j With the Editor ! I ' The Associated Boys of East High finally got around to doing what the Sugar House boys did years ago . . . they made Virginia Grubb an honorary queen. Virginia Vir-ginia has been the queen of Sugar Su-gar House ever since she first started high-steppine it i" a11 our local parades as head drum majorette of the American Legion's Le-gion's drum and bugle corps. Sugar House Post 65. This new honor came to Virginia Vir-ginia last week when she was S elected by the boys of East High J school to reign over their big dance, one of the highlights of East High's social season. An reign she did . . . last Saturday night at the Union building. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Grubb, well-known southeast couple, Virginia had her picture in LIFE magazine not so long ago, as one of the foot-weary drum majorettes in the mammoth American Legion parade in San Francisco. Congratulations, Con-gratulations, Virginia. Long live the Queen! We bumped into a couple of Granite High boys around town the other day and before we knew it they had put us to work . . . which is all right with us. They are out soliciting support sup-port from the businessmen and townspeople of the southeast area for their candidate and queen, Merry Ann Ash ton, whom we told you about last week. Merry Ann is representing represent-ing the Granite High Ski club in the big ski queen contest being held tonight at the Coconut Grove. The boys are selling tickets to the gala Salt Lake Winter Sports Style Show and Dance and at the same time they are getting money to build a float which is entered in the parade. The float will be under the sponsorship of the school ski club and various business firms in the southeast area. Each ticket deposited in the box at the dance, according to the boys, is worth 100 votes. The dance and style show will begin at 9 p.m. this evening, so be sure and get your ticket. They will be on sale at The Bulletin all clay today. Any number of people have been in or called in to ask where Pete's column was last week. Wo missoj the popular sports column, col-umn, too, but can't report much hope until Pete can find more time to work on it. He's been so rnshed with ski orders over at his shop that his life isn't his own these days. When wo asked him what we could say to Dthe. readers, he said: "Tell them I've gone skiing in Eurpe for an Indefinite period." There you have it We don't know either. Last week we added a new column to the paper . . . one from the American Legion Post 65. This group is one of the most active and public serving in the whole southeast area and we're proud to have them in. Carl SprLngman is handling the correspondent's job and so far it's been very good. Keep your eye on it for news of one of Sugar House's outstanding organizations. |
