Show around the Q J SUGAR HOUSE E j With the Editor R j In a conversation at the rer cent Chamber meeting Sid Ottley sounded what we believe to be Sugar House's' keynote.. We found him shaking hands, with two new Chamber members who are competitors of his in the paint and wallpaper business, John E. DeHaan and A. E. Smith. . To our question, "Aren't you three competitors at swords' points?" Sid remarked, "In Sugar Su-gar House there isn't any competition, com-petition, just cooperation." . We ran into an old Army buddy of ours last Saturday as we were crossing the eastern end of the plaza. "Do you live out this w.ay?" we asked him. "No," he said, "I live o"n 5th South and 11th East." "Then what brings you to Sugar Su-gar House?" we hopefully asked. "I enjoy shopping here," he said. When we urged him to tell us some of his reasons, here ar;e some he gave: 1. Sugar House is not infested infest-ed with hurry-scurry mobs of people. . ' 2. He easily found a parking place in a free parking lot. 3. "I think the prices are a little better here, and the quality qual-ity just as good." 4. The atmosphere here was easier and more informal he felt. ... .....- ..... y-.il Many people imagine that a chamber of commerce is a body of pomnous business men. They would have received a surprise had they been at December's Sugar Su-gar House Chamber of Commerce Com-merce meeting at Weasku Inn to see the business men (every one of. 'em) . chortling "Jingle Bells" and accompanying themselves by striking their water glasses with their table knives. |
