University of ' Utah students, , faculty and members of the Board of Regents Saturday night honored honor-ed the University most outstanding outstand-ing state official-alumnus, Governor Gov-ernor Herbert B. Maw, in an exclusive ex-clusive reception party on the campus open only to persons directly di-rectly connected with the institution. institu-tion. In formal attire, approximately 350 faculty members and regents greeted Utah's recently inducted governor. Together with Governor and Mrs. Maw they opened the evening's festivities with a dinner. Music for the occasion was furnished furn-ished by the University a capella and glee club. Following the dinner, decorated by candle light and flowers, members mem-bers of the University Officers club and Scabbard and Blade, military societies, formed a military mili-tary archway for the honor guests to proceed through to the lounge-where lounge-where formal reception of students stu-dents took place. Among those in the receiving line were University Uni-versity President and Mrs. Geo. Thomas. Governor and Mrs. Maw. representatives of the Board of Regents. Alumni association and the student body. Following the reception, dancing danc-ing in the Union Building ba 11-. 11-. room was held. Invitations to , the affair were distributed Monday Mon-day during registration for the winter quarter to all students. He has practiced law intermittently intermit-tently for 20 years and has been a state senator for six years, having presided over that body during the last legislature. The new governor is the eighth executive of the state and the first to be elected by the direct primary method of nomination which was begun last year as the result of legislation championed by Governor Maw while president of the senate. The University and the State of Utah as a whole may well be proud of Governor Herbert B. Maw. |
