Show Local Men Enroll in Defense, Courses Four men from South Salt Lake County have enrolled at the University Uni-versity of Utah in the National Defense Engineering Courses and began class work last week, according ac-cording to an official University news release. Taking advantage of the Government-sponsored courses in Engineering"" En-gineering"" training to prepare men for positions in defense industries, the men have selected the courses for which they are qualified, and which are of greatest interest to them. John Spencer Clawson, of Murray, Mur-ray, has enrolled in the Drafting classes, which meet in the University Uni-versity Engineering Hall during the evening." Mr. Clawson is a graduate dSBranite High School and was formerly.' employed by the Ray Roofing Company, of "Rntte ATnntnTin George James Davidson, of 1715 South Seventh East, is studying Mechanical Drawing, under the Federal program. He was until recently an office employee of the Grand Central Market System. Sys-tem. Ernest Rudolf Hertig, of 2402 South Main street, has signed up for Mechanical Drawing. He is an employee of the Union Pacific Railroad, and was formerly in the United States Navy. Ralph Edward Vincent, of 2299 East 17th South street, who was graduated from Granite High School last June, has enrolled in the Drafting classes. According to Dean A. LeRoy Taylor, of the University School o f Engineering, response t o courses has far exceeded the number num-ber of men they expected to train, and although facilities have been , expanded to capacity, many men have been turned away, making the choice of trainees a highly 1 selective affair. |
