Show BILL PROVIDING FOR OF UTE CLAIMS FAILS washington march E 5 the bill referring re to the court of claims of the uintah and white river uto ute indians indiana of utah against tho the government ern ment although it passed both senate and house failed to become a law on the final day of the session because of a disagreement over two amendments made by the house to the senate bill one reduced the attorneys tees fees from to and the other permitted the government to set off against any pending claims which the indians may file amounts which have heretofore been paid them on past accounts this limitation it was contended by advocates of the bill would arbitrarily have reduced the possible benefit the indians might receive under an award of the court of cla claims I 1 ms and a nd lt it was decided to abandon the bill altogether rather than pass it in that form there ther was no chance of getting the house hells I 1 to recede from its amendments so the bill will have to be rel reintroduced ced la in the next congress |
