Show BYU Journiiasm Conference Draws Forty-Eight Forty - three students and three teachers represented Roosevelt Roos-evelt Junior High and Union High School at the annual Journalism Jour-nalism Conference held Oct. 31 at Brigham Young University. Those attending from Roosevelt Roose-velt Junior High included: Vir-gie Vir-gie Murphy and Mrs. Lenore Hutchings, faculty advisers, and the following staff members of the student newspaper and yearbook: year-book: Nancy Dee Witbeck, Ja-neil Ja-neil Smith, Gay Cloward. Cleo K. Labrum, Charlotte Henrie, Laree Bywater, Ralph Larson, Jerry Lyle Murray, Mona All-redd, All-redd, Alene Peterson, Kaye Chugg, Laura Lee Fredrickson, Gloria Riding, Lewis Fausett, Kenn Bastian, Glenda McClel-lan, McClel-lan, Gale Larsen, Roy Moulton, Louise Gentry, Rolene Duke, Mavie Dye, Keith Winterton, Mary Giles and Sherril Richens. Attending from Union High School were the following: Mr. Marion Harrison, faculty adviser, advis-er, and the following staff members mem-bers of the student newspaper and yearbook: Pauline McCon-kie, McCon-kie, Vivian McConkie, Buddy Hancock, Ray .Smith, Loraine Averett, Jay Bowden, Genevieve Johnson, Cuba Case, Renae El-dredge, El-dredge, Gwennita Curry, Craig Hutchings, Albert Barney, Melissa Me-lissa Anderson, Janice Neilsen, Patsy Gines, Diane Nelson, Carolyn Car-olyn Ross, Ruth Hamblin, Mau-rine Mau-rine Allred and Connie Timothy. The delegates exchanged publication pub-lication ideas with more than 350 representatives from high schools and junior colleges of the intermountain states. Technical Tech-nical assistance in editing and advertising problems was given in a series of 16 workshop sessions ses-sions arranged for student newspaper, news-paper, yearbook and magazine staffs. "Oug biggest job in the press is to keep the public informed and thus to safeguard the freedoms free-doms we have in America," the student delegates were told in the conference keynote address by William B. Smart, editorial page editor of the Deseret News. Mr. Smart was one of 14 professional editors, photographers, photog-raphers, printers and advertising advertis-ing men who took part in the conference. |
