Show Pipe For Canal Discussed At Council Meeting Construction of pipeline to carry the water of Dry Gulch canal from the Gulch bridge on Highway 40 eastward 940 feet, where the cana presently parallels the road, was the main topic for discussion at the city council meeting Monday night, according to Irene K. Rup-pel, Rup-pel, city clerk. The pipe, which will be 42 inches in diameter, is proposed for the purpose of protection against children falling into the now open canal. A screen would be placed over the pipe at the intake end to eliminate the danger dan-ger of anyone being washed into the pipe if they should fall into the canal at a spot above the place where the pipe is to be layed. Cost of the pipe is expected to be about two thousand dollars. The Utah State Road Commission will supply the money for the pipe but the city of Roosevelt and property owners will have to supply the money for the construction, con-struction, Mrs. Ruppel added. Lay-1 ing of the new pipe is expected to begin within the next two weeks. Another item brought up at the I meeting was mention of the fact that eight business houses in Roosevelt have failed to pay their license fees for the first half of 1955. A fine will be levied on business houses that do not pay their fees before July 1, added Mrs. Ruppel. Fees for the second half of the year are due on that date, also. |
