Show Gifts To Shower 1000th Babe Born At Local Hospital The 1000th baby to be born at the Roosevelt LDS hospital will be showered with gifts from local business houses, J. H. Eldredge, hospital superintendent, announced an-nounced Wednesday. The decision deci-sion to mark the birth of the 1000th baby is the outgrowth of suggestions made by several Roosevelt mothers. On August 21, 1944, twenty-four twenty-four hours after the Roosevelt hospital opened its doors to receive re-ceive patients, the first baby was born to Mrs. Sharron Mech-am, Mech-am, of Bridgeland. A shower marked its arrival, as will one recognize the arrival of the 1000th baby. During four years and eight months of operation, the Roosevelt Roos-evelt LDS hospital has recorded 996 births. Four more babies must be born at the local institution insti-tution before a gift shower heralds her-alds the arrival of the 1000th. . In tracing the history of the Roosevelt LDS hospital, Mr. Eldredge El-dredge recalled that the need for a local hospital brought about the decision of the LDS church to construct one here. The movement was started during dur-ing B. O. Colton's presidency of the Roosevelt stake. It was completed com-pleted and opened after Ray E. Dillman was named stake president, presi-dent, with full support coming from local civic and religious organizations. The initial board of directors included E. L. Murphy, -Upalco; Ernest Morrison. Roosevelt; L. J. Gilbert, Arcadia; Ray E. Dill-man Dill-man and Wm. FL, Ruppel, Jr., Roosevelt. John E. Wiscombe was secretary of the board. . The hospital personnel at its opening' included Drs. Whitmore and Miles as staff doctors, J. Harold Eldredge, superintendent, and Martha Shank, supervising manager. Others on the staff were Mrs. Elise Harmston, Reen-ie Reen-ie Burgess, and Mr. and Mrs. Don Kolb. Membership on the present board is held by Ray E. Dillman, Byron O. Colton, L. J. Gilbert. E. L. Murphy, Heber Moon and Randall Stewart, with Homer P. Edwards as secretary. A total of 18 persons are currently employed em-ployed at the hospital. Staff doctors are Drs. Wyler, Larsen', Bourne and Hamilton. The Roosevelt LDS hospital was officially opened August 20, 1944, and since that time has handled 8299 patients. , Announcement of the shower to honor the 1000th baby to be I born' at the local hospital has brought an enthusiastic respense from Roosevelt merchants in what Mr. Eldredge terms "an event which promises to be one of interest to the public as well as to the lucky mother." |
