Show Duchesne County Ready To Start Weed Control Plan By Louis A. Jensen Plans for the county weed control con-trol program for this year were announced this week by the Duchesne Du-chesne county weed committee. The county endorses the recommendations recom-mendations of the weed control program developed by the state agricultural correlation committee commit-tee and urg"C3 the cooperation of the public in their control. An effective program should include the various methods, including in-cluding cropping, cultivation and the use of chemicals. The county is making plans to withdraw from the operation of spray outfits. This work is to be handled in the future by private- operators. Numerous individuals indi-viduals throughout the county are now operating spray outfits out-fits on a custom basis. In addition several small sprayers have been purchased by individuals who plan to do their own work. It ' is hoped that many more outfits out-fits will be purchased and put ! in operation so that everyone who has spraying to be done may be able to locale an outfit. In order to stimulate and assist as-sist in the control of noxious weeds, the county will pay one-half one-half the cost of the chemical used. This applies to those who ! put on the chemical themselves, as well as individuals who hire the work done. Spray operators will have chemical on hand at all times. It may also be purchased pur-chased at the county court house in Duchesne and at the county agent's office in Roosevelt. i i i Inquiries concerning the county coun-ty program may be directed to the county agent of the county weed committee, composed of the following: Evan Howell, Roosevelt, Roos-evelt, president; L. J. Gilbert, Arcadia; Hale Holgate, Arcadia; Douglas Bertoch, Roosevelt; Alma Al-ma Poulson, Duchesne; Horace Allred, Roosevelt; William Lott, Ft. Duchesne; Senor Mortenson, Myton; Marvin Michie, Tabiona; A. M. Burton, Talmage; James Lloyd, Roosevelt; LcGrande Me-cham, Me-cham, Mt. Home; Rue Miles, Mt. Home. Simultaneously with the above announcement, Hale Holgate, district inspector for the State I Department of Agriculture, reminds re-minds all land operators that the state weed law requires everyone ev-eryone to control the noxious weeds on their land. They may be controlled by cultivation, mowing, spraying or any method which will prevent them from going to seed and spreading. A land operator who does not control noxious weeds will be issued a clean-up order requiring requir-ing this work to be done within a specified time. If this is not done the State Department of Agriculture, Ag-riculture, through the district inspector, has the authority to place a quarantine on the farm. The weeds will then be controlled con-trolled and the cost attached to the county taxes. Mr. Holgate requests the cooperation co-operation of all in controlling weeds in a practical way so that no undue hardship will be placed on land operators. In connection with the county-wide county-wide weed control program, the city will treat noxious weeds on all of its property, including streets where weeds are running rampant. The Council reports that John Zupko will handle the spraying' and advises residents who are confronted with a weed problem on their property to arrange ar-range with Mr. Zupko for treatment. |
