Unit 64, have lined up N; sponsors for 6 local boys who s will attend annual Boys' State at Camp Williams, July 5 to 12; ! and 3 local girls who will take ' part in the Girls' State from i June 26 through July 3 at the USAC in Logan. Both the boys' and the girls' si programs have as their objec-fli objec-fli lives the education of American fj youth in the duties, privileges, IS rights and responsibilities of "L American citizenship. The two j states in which mythical forms of government are set up, are C undertakings by the Legion and , Auxiliary to bring to the youth I of Utah a knowledge of the fund-t fund-t amental principles of American J government through actual prac-i.. prac-i.. tice and control of state offices. With the teaching of American-ism American-ism as a fundamental objective i of the Legion and the Auxiliary, the two groups recognize that as ,j future voters and office holders - the state's boys and girls should M have an understanding of the vj problems of elective officials, J their duties and their functions. The opportunity to gain basic knowledge of these fundamentals la is offered by the Utah Boys' g State and the Utah Girls' State. With adequate staffs at Camp Williams and at the USAC. the 5b programs will be. augmented by . specific instructions from leaders lead-ers in government- Participants Iat the two schools of Americanism American-ism will be under the immediate direction of trained and capable directors with counselors in constant con-stant attendance. Strict health and safety rules will be observed. Heading1 for Boys' State at Camp Williams, July 5, will be Lawrence Wilson, sponsored by Basin Post 64; Lyle Benson, sponsored by J. V. McLea, Inc.; John Fausett, sponsored by Ash-ton's; Ash-ton's; Ray Nielson, sponsored by-Cash by-Cash Meat Market; Ronald Dye, sponsored by the Roosevelt Implement Imp-lement Co.; and a boy, yet to be named from Alterra high school, will be sponsored by the Federal Employees Club of Ft. Duchesne. Getting ready for Girls' State at Logan, June 26 to July 3, are Algie Luke, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, Basin Ba-sin Unit 64; JoAnne Roberts, sponsored by the Junior Culture club; with a participant from Alterra, Al-terra, yet to be named, who will be sponsored by the Alterra FHA. |
