Show Lt. Blumer Receives Bronze Star Medal Bushnell General Hospital, Brigham City, Utah 1st Lieut. Howard Dillman Blumer, 28, of Roosevelt, Utah, was amoung the fighting men decorated at this hospital at ceremonies in the executive offices Wednesday. He received the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement achieve-ment in military operations against the Japs at Saipan during dur-ing a battle on June 24, 1944. The presentations were made by Colonel Robert M. Hardaway, commanding office of Bushnell General Hospital, assisted by Lieut. Col. Douglas W. Ritchie, executive officer. The citation relates: "Lieut. Blumer was assigned to go forward for-ward of the front lines to coordinate co-ordinate the functioning of the forward observer details of the battalion. He accomplished this mission, constantly at all times exhibiting complete disregard for his own personal safety. He remained in the front lines all that night and was subsequently seriously wounded and evacuated." Lieut. Blumer was commissioned com-missioned a second lieutenant in the field artillery in June, 1941, direct from the ROTC at the University of Utah where he was an engineering student. He went overseas in March, 1942, and saw action in the Marshall Islands Is-lands as well as the Mariannas with an artillery battalion of the 27th Infantry Division. He is the son of Mrs. Floyd E. Harmston of Roosevelt. The Utahn plans to return to the University of Utah to complete com-plete his engineering degree when he receives his discharge from the U.S. Army. In addition to the Bronze Star, he is authorized to wear the Purple Heart, Pacific Ribbon with two campaign stars, and the American Defense Medal. S SGT. BRODRICK I AT GUAM Bomber Command Headquariers Staff Sergeant Clifford H. Brodrick, of Roosevelt, Utah, is one of the hundreds of enlisted men at a huge Superfortress base in the Marianas whose diligent efforts have made it possible to strike regularly at the heart of Japan's industry. Set. Broderick is a mechanic in a combat unit commanded by Brigadier General Emmett O'Donnell, Jr., who led the first B-29 striking force from Saipan to bomb Toyoko's aviation industry in-dustry on November 24, 1944. An additional tribute has been paid Sergeant Broderick and the others for their toil in constructing construct-ing their B-29 bases. They arrived ar-rived last August and September Septem-ber and, since aviation engineers were busy with the high priority task of airstrip building, they constructed homes for themselves them-selves and for the aerial combat t crews who arrived later. Sgt, Broderick's father, Hil-lard Hil-lard R. Broderick, lives at Rose-velt, Rose-velt, He was graduated from Roosevelt High school in 1938. He entered the Army in Decern-, ber, 1939. IN THE MARINES Marine Private Ellis Denver, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Denver Den-ver Sr.. Fort Duchesne, has been graduated from the infantry and Browning automatic rifle school at Camp Pendleton, California, and is now awaiting, assignment to an infantry battalion batta-lion of the Fleet Marine Force. A native of Fort Duchesne, Pvt. Denver attended high school at Roosevelt, where he ployed football and basketball. Prior to joining the Marine Corps September 7, 1944, he was 'employed on his father's farm. |
