Household Scrapbooks by Roberta Lee Tea Stain Removers The following fol-lowing are excellent removers of tea stains: Rub the stained area with glycerine and then wash out in warm water and soap suds; or, stretch the stained stain-ed section across a bowl and Kour a kettle of boiling water, eld two feet or so above, through it; or, sprinkle with salt and lemon juice and let garment lie in the hot sun until the stain has disappeared. A Substitute Funnel If in need of a small funnel to fill the salt and pepper cruets, make one by cutting off the top of the I corner of an envelope and using this corner as a funnel. Coat Collars To take away that greasy look from coat collars, col-lars, go over them occasionally with . a cloth moistened with household amonia. Clogged Pipes One method of cleaning clogged pipes is to force a mixture of washing soda and salt (about a handfull of each) into the top of the pipe, and after leaving for half an hour, pour down a kcttleful of boiling water. I Iodine Stains To remove an iodine stain, moisten finely shaved white soap with cold water and spread it over the stain, allowing it to remain for a few hours. Hot Food Food will keep-hot keep-hot without more cooking if a pie pan is inverted over the gas flame and the pan of food set on top. There will not be enough heat to cook. . Cracks in Floors To fill in cracks in the floor, soak some old newspapers in strong alum water until they form a soft pulp. Then press hard into the cracks; when covered with paint line repair will hardly show. Odors on Dishes Fish or onion odors will not cling to dishes if two tablespoonfuls of baking soda are added to the water in which the dishes are washed. Blue Fabrics . Blue fabrics will hold their color much longer long-er if they are soaked in a solution solu-tion of one tablespoon of salt to one quart of water. Gasoline Whenever you use gasoline for cleaning purposes, pour the residue down the kitchen kitch-en sink, followed by boiling water. This process will cut all grease deposits that may have collected, and give the pipes a thorough cleaning. Poached Eggs The egg can be prevented from spreading when poaching it if one teaspoon-ful teaspoon-ful of vinegar is added to the water. The vinegar will set the white of the egg. |
