Show Stimulated Vote Foreshadowed By Registration Gain The official voting registers of the Roosevelt Precinct were closed clos-ed Tuesday evening with the addition ad-dition of 135 names. In District 2 where regisration was con-, ducted in the Municinal building, I Aold Reef reported a near rec-' ord day's sign-uo of 100 nrosoec-tive nrosoec-tive voters, while in District 1, j Mrs. Grant Killian disclosed a I 'esnstratinn of 35. Based on reg-I reg-I trat'on figures, indications are that 500 more votes will be cast l n the Roosevelt Precinct on Tuesday than were cast in the general election of 1944. Throughout Tuesday municipal munici-pal and civic leaders canvassed the city urging a full registration. registra-tion. Their efforts showed, grat-ifvine grat-ifvine results in District 2, but fell short of expectations in District Dis-trict 1. Inclement weather, the natural enemy of election and registration days, plus a general apathy on the part of residents in the la'ter district, are held as causes for the poor showing in that district. Meanwhile, November 5 charged charg-ed head on to mark the close or the continuation of the careers car-eers of incumbent office holders and to end a colorless state-wide campaign. v IN DUCHESNE county the main events of an uninteresting Political contest appear to be shaping up in this manner: Walter Wal-ter K. Granger, Democrat and Tcvid J. Wilson, Republican, for ihe congressional seat now occupied oc-cupied by the former; John P. Madsen. Democrat, and H. L. Allred, Republican, for Duchesne countv representative to the state legislature, a post now held by Madsen, with the third feature fea-ture attraction being between James Lloyd, Reoublican. and Levi Anderton, Democrat, for the office of 4-year commisioner. Lloyd is the incumbent, having been appointed on July 1 to fill he unexpired term of Willard A. Day. The polls will open Tuesday, November 5 at 7 a. m. and remain re-main ooen until 8 p. m. Polling nlaces in the Roosevelt Precinct have been designated as follows: District 1, Tovack Chapter house; District 2, Municinal building. Designation of the Toyack Chapter Chap-ter house as the polling place for District 1, may, in the opinion of several observers, cut the expected ex-pected vote because of its remoteness re-moteness to the center of the district. |
