Show Alterra FFA News BY Ervin Young This year has been a very outstanding out-standing one for the Alterra FFA Chapter. Our President, Lyle Taylor, won state fame at the recent State FFA Convention at Logan on April 4th and 5th. Lyle was one of the 40 in the state to be awarded the state farmer key. Lyle is the second from Alterra to receive this award. Blaine Morrill received this award a few years ago. Lyle also represented the district dist-rict in the final state FFA public speaking contest held at the state capitol building on March 17th. In the coming livestock shows Altamont, Vernal, and North Salt Lake, eight of our members plan to show 30 sheep, 21 members mem-bers are exibiting 58 fat beef, and several others are to exhibit swine. The Alterra FFA Chapter was awarded $02.50 by Sears & Roebuck Roe-buck to be used to purchase a pure bred gilt to start a hog chain in the chapter. Since the stock was to be kept in the chapter chap-ter we decided to add some more to the Sears & Roebuck payment and buy a gilt of better quality. We purphased a .registered duroc-jersey duroc-jersey gilt from V. R. Fisher of Oxford, Idaho for $135. The gilt was awarded to Weldon Wooley and Weldon is to give 3 weaner pigs from the first litter to three other members who in return will do the same. The chapter received this award for having won the most points from this districe at last year's stock shows.' The chapter plans to purchase a registeredduroc-jersey boar of equal breeding to be used by members of the chapter to improve im-prove the quality of swine projects. pro-jects. L |
