Show U-E DAY OBSERVANCE COMMITTEE APPOINTED - PROGRAM PLANNED FOR ROOSEVELT CITY Citizens of Roosevelt Asked to Prepair For V-E Day-Siren To Notify When Big Event Hits -, a Parade and Program Planned Rowdyism Should Be Eliminated and Thanksgiving Prayer Offered Up At a meeting of all civic club heads, called by Mayor Harrison and held in the City Municipal building Thursday, April 26, for the purpose of planning a fitting program for "V-E Day", the following fol-lowing committees were appointed: appoint-ed: Program, Horace J. Ritchie, Hollis Hullinger, Clista Angus, Harry Gregory and Mildred Dili-man; Dili-man; closing hours, Ellen Rawl-ings, Rawl-ings, Reda Baxter and Curtis Walton; parade, publicity and decorations: Berniece Palfrey-man, Palfrey-man, Mrs. Bennie Schmiett, Ted Harmston, Harry Sprouse, Bennie Ben-nie Schmiett, LaVera Bellon and Marvin Oldroyd. Program Planned It was decided by the general committee that if it should come before the schools close, there will be a big parade and that each child should plan now to have at least a small flag accessible. acces-sible. It was also decided to have a fitting program which will be held in the Roosevelt Theatre. Closing Hours Adopted No matter what hour the news comes, the business houses and all professional or government offices should close for the following fol-lowing twenty-four hours. The program will take place on the following schedule: If it comes before noon, .the program will be i held at 4 p. m.; up to five o'clock, it will be held at 8 p. m.; If word is received after 5 o'clock the program will be held at 4 p. m. the following day. If notice is received on Saturday Satur-day afternoon or Sunday, Monday Mon-day will be a closinc day, but if the word comes on Friday afternoon, after-noon, all food stores will be asked ask-ed to remain open until noon Saturday. Colors will be presented by the American Legion. All service ser-vice men will be honored on th stage. Two principal speaker? have been selected. There will be patrotic numbers rendered; the National Anthem and other war songs will be sung by the congregation. congre-gation. The Alterra band will "endeavor "en-deavor to be on hand for the parade par-ade and program. This is a community affair and all citizens are requested to participate par-ticipate in giving thanks to the end of hostilities in Europe, and pray for an early end to the battle bat-tle with Japan. |
