Dr. EIRoy Nelson, acting- director of the University of Utah's Bureau of Business and Economic Research, and H. Wright Volker, secretary of the Utah Chambers of Commerce Resources committee, headed the group that met with the Roosevelt Roose-velt citizens for the resources talks. At the end of the statewide swing Utah's natural resources will be compiled and made available to the public. The publication pub-lication will explain Utah's natural nat-ural wealth and the possibilities for development. The Roosevelt meeting brought the assertion from Dr. Nelson that the people recognize the need for conserving and developing de-veloping the state's resources and .V" '' ' ' i fS-''';- ' '' . Basically Utah's future depends upon the further growth of agriculture and the development of mineral resources, Dr. Nelson pointed out. Ho affirmed the belief, however, how-ever, that Utah's agriculture has reached its peak and that it can make little progress as an industrial indus-trial state without the full utilization utili-zation of its water resources "Water is the first real demand for the development of Utah's resources," Dr. Nelson pointed out. In this connection he emphasized em-phasized the importance of the proposed Central Utah project both for agricultural purposes and production of hydro-electric power for industrial use. A usable supply of natural gas was listed as Utah's second need for industrial expansion. An open fo.rum devoted to the discussion of Uintah Basin minerals, min-erals, livestock and farming was conducted by Ferris Hillyard and Claron Nelson, of the University Univer-sity research staff. |
