Show Seen In The Utah Weeklies BIG HUNT The big game hunting season which began as only fair, improved im-proved with the storms of last week, and rated as good with the end of the season Tuesday. Fred Reynolds, Uintah County game warden, estimated that approximately ap-proximately 70 per cent of the nimrods got their game. There were a total of 2,084 animals checked by 3,000 hunters hunt-ers at the three checking stations which were established by the Utah State Game Commission at the head of Steinaker Draw, Diamond Mountain and Taylor Mountain. A tragic aspect of the hunt, however, was disclosed by a check of local meat packing and locked plants which disclosed that over 50 per cent of the does which had been brought in were what are known as "wet" does that were suckling fawns at the time they were killed. Vernal Express TURKEYS OFF The Sevier Valley Processing plant which has had to close down several days this week awaiting cars to ship their turkeys, tur-keys, will open again Monday morning. According to Henry Winkel. manager, there are only about 25 per cent as many birds being processed this year as there has been in other years. Though there are not so many turkeys this year, Mr. Winkel states that they are of fine quality and it is his speculation that the prices will be about the same as they were last year. Richfield Reaper RETIREMENT PLAN Final acceptance of a retirement retire-ment plan for city employees will probably come about at the next regular council meeting to be held on November 10. it has been announced following Mon-day Mon-day night's meeting during which time the city's governing body gave a verbal agreement to an ordinance, with minor changes, as advanced by city employees. The new ordinance expected to be accepted will allow deductions deduc-tions up to 3Vi per cent of any employee's monthly salary with the city matching this amount out of the general fund. Changes in some of the hospital and sickness sick-ness benefit provisions as recommended recom-mended by the employees will also be made. Price Sun-Advocate ANOTHER BIG HUNT Out of the 3503 out-of-state hunters checked through the checking station at Santa Clara, up to Tuesday, October 23 at 3 p. m., a good percentage of them had their deer. Last year there xwere 5300 hunters " checked put and 5233 deer; 3555 bucks and 1670 does. It is expected the number will be some less this year. There were 2308 bucks and 1184 does checked, making a total of 3492 deer. The final check from all the stations will not be complete for a number of days. Washington County News |
