Milk Test Change There are several factors which cause the butterfat test of milk to vary. The milk of a cow recently freshened may test high. This condition con-dition is a temporary one, and after it disappears the milk is likely to test lowest during the first few months following freshening. As the lactation advances, the test tends to increase and becomes high near the end of lactation. Tests of milk are usually highest during the coldest months and lowest in summer.
