Show Junior Fat Stock Show June 5 and 6 With last-minute indications pointing toward the biggest show in either Utah or national history, his-tory, officials of the Eighth Annual An-nual Intermountain Junior Fat Stock show prepared this week to open exhibits on June 5 and 6 at North Salt Lake. Raymond C. Wilson of Salt Lake City, show president, listed list-ed un-precedented figures for the number of cattle to be entered in the show, with 858 head announced an-nounced following the May 24 deadline. Only 436 were entered in last year's show. The North Salt Lake affair has replaced the Spokane stock show as the top national show following compilation comp-ilation of this year's figures. Only 527 cattle were exhibited at Spokane. In addition to the increase in cattle over last year, totalling 331,200 hogs and 310 sheep will be exhibited. Of the 858 cattle, Future Farmers of America will show 451 and 4-H club members will show 358. Hogs shown by FFA boys number 131 and sheep 133, with 4-H'ers showing 35 hogs and 140 sheep. Duchesne county will exhibit 101 cattle, 26 hogs and 19 sheep, announces County Agent Marden Broadbent. Between 450 and 500 FFA and 4-H members are expected to exhibit ex-hibit animals at the show, states Mr. Wilson. Other Monday events are cattle grading, grad-ing, 9 a. m., hog grading, 9 a. m., and sheep grading, 1 p. m., and exhibitors banquet and Kiwanis program, 7:30 p. m, Tuesday, June 6, brings the auction sale of all show stock beginning at 9:30 a. m. At a recent meeting, packers, railroads, hotels, chain stores, independent in-dependent stores and restaurants pledged to support exhibitors in paying market prices plus premiums pre-miums for all stock at the auc-I auc-I tion sale. |
