Show iuuiiuajfi j . SOCIETY THOUGHT AND THIMBLE A delightful dessert luncheon was featured when Mrs. Art Allen Al-len entertained members of her sewing club last Friday evening. Covers were laid for Mrs. Harold Dillman, Mrs. Jim Collmgham, Mrs. Ted Jensen, Mrs. Olen Perry man, Mrs. Jack Redmond, Mrs Bert Burgess, Mrs. Robert Johnson and Mrs. Elroy Wilkins. JUNIOR CULTURE CLUB Mrs Orson Stevens entertained informally at her residence last Monday night for members of the Junior Culture club. Lovely arrangements of blue and white carnations added beauty to the mantle, while a centerpiece of daffodils brought a breath of spring to the table setting. Dessert luncheon was featured featur-ed with covers laid for Mrs. Ned BeJlon, Mrs. Johnnie Cook, Mrs. Elmer Eldredge, Mis3 Karma Dee Harmston, Mrs. Verlan Labrum, Mrs. Ora Labrum, Mrs. Jim Lewis, Mrs. Bill Murdock, Mrs. Clarence Redmond and Mrs. Bennie Schmiett. The club has selected as a pro- j ject this season, the decorating of the girls' dressing room at the high school. A plate glass mirror 30" by 96" and a dispenser dispen-ser were purchased this week in Salt Lake City, and will be installed the forepart of next week. AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY Members of the American Legion Leg-ion Auxiliary met in regular session Wednesday evening, Jan. 23, at the Legion hall. President Dorothy McClellan presented the lesson on "Legislature." substituting substi-tuting for Mable Curtis, of Ft. Duchesne. Following the business meeting meet-ing a delicious dessert luncheon was served by hostesses Barbara Killian, Lula Wiscombe and Shirley Murdock. The next meeting of the Auxiliary Aux-iliary will be held February 11 at 8 p. m. at the Legion hall. Subject for discussion will be ""Americanism," with Wanda Trujillo in charge of the lesson. All members and eligible members mem-bers are urged to attend. ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED Mr. and Mrs. Willis Miller,' of Neola, announce the engagement of their daughter, Nellie, to Joe D. Gleaton, son of E. D. Gleaton, of Roosevelt. Plans are for a June wedding. Both Miss Miller and Mr. Gleaton are in their senior year at the Roosevelt high school. BUFFETT SUPPER A late buffet supper and a dance provided delightful relaxation relax-ation at the Gordon Harmston residence Saturday evening when Mr. and Mrs. Harmston and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Harrison entertained en-tertained in honor of the Jay Ginns. African violets flanked by lighted yellow tapers in crystal crys-tal candelabra added charm to the table arrangement. Guests enjoying the occasion included Mr. and Mrs. Jay Ginn, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Malin, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Wyler, Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Schmiett, Mr. and Mrs Bob Huish, Mrs. Vean Bair and Miss Karma Dee Harmston. NEIGHBORHOOD SEWING Mrs. Clifton La.ris extended hospitality at her home last Wednesday Wed-nesday evening when she entertained enter-tained members of the Neighborhood Neighbor-hood Sewing club. A delicious dessert luncheon was featured 'with places marked for Mrs. Floyd Labrum. Mrs. Llewellyn Jenkins, Mrs. Guy Burton, Mrs. Donald Laris, Mrs. .Neldon Ny-berg, Ny-berg, Mrs. Louis Laris. Mrs. Joseph Rawlings and Mrs. Howard Ho-ward Andrews. ENTERTAINS FRIENDS Mr. and Mrs. ' Smith Johnson entertained a group of friends at their home last Friday evening. Table games were played, after which a tasty luncheon was served to Mr. and Mrs. John Gilbert, Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Hullinger, Mr. and Mrs. Omni Winterton, Mr. and Mrs. John Swenson, Mr. and Mrs. Orvill Whitehead, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Wen-dell Luke and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ivory. FRIDAY BRIDGE v Red carnations lent their charm to the decorative theme when Mrs. C. L. Ashton entertained enter-tained members of her bridge club last Friday evening. A delightfully de-lightfully arranged dessert luncheon was served with covers laid for Mrs. R, S. Jordan, Mrs. Sam Weiss, Mrs. Howard Harrison, Harri-son, Mrs. Bennie Schmiett, Mrs. Vean Bair, Mrs. Bob Huish, Mrs. Glenn Wyler, Mrs. Jay Ginn, Mrs. Fred Ferron, Mrs. Paul Wilkins, Mrs. Gordon Harmston, Mrs. Eugene Harmston, Mrs. Wayne Malin, Mrs. Louis Cor-bridge, Cor-bridge, Mrs. Lynn Orser and Mrs. Axel Birch. The remainder of the evening was devoted to cards with prizes going to Mrs. Jordan, Mrs. Weiss, Mrs. Malin, Mrs. Eugene Harmston Harm-ston and Mrs. Gordon Harmston. ALTRUS Another bright spot on this week's calendar of events, was the Altrus club meeting, held at the home of Mrs. Hollis Hullinger, Hullin-ger, Monday, Jan. 19. A feature of the evening was an illustrated lecture on art, given by Mrs Omni Winterton. Following the lecture a tempting temp-ting salad course luncheon was served to Mrs.'R. V. Larsen, Mrs. Homer Edwards, Mrs. Horace Allrcd, Mrs. Van Winterton, Mrs. E. J. Nixon, Mrs. Alva Snow, Mrs. John Swenson, Mrs. Axel Anderson, Mrs. Les Swain, Mrs. Thcron Leavitt, Mrs. Les Mullins, Mrs. George Taylor, Mrs. Gar-nett Gar-nett Birchell, Mrs. Howard Ivory, Mrs. Omni Winterton, Mrs. Robert Gillespie and Mrs. Lynn Nickcll. HIGH SCHOOLS TO SPONSOR SWEETHEART QUEEN ' The six high schools of the Uintah Basin arc busily engaged 1 in selecting a lovely girl lo represent rep-resent their school at the Sweethearts' Sweet-hearts' Ball to be held Saturday evening, February 14, at Victory Park. Names of each of the six contestants will be announced next week. The Sweetheart Queen will be selected at the Swcetharts Ball on Valentine Night by a group of impartial judges, whose names also will be announced soon. The winning contestant will be awarded a lovely pearl necklace at the Sweethearts' Ball, and each of the other five contestants will also receive awards. The dance will be formal, complete with programs. High school students with studentbody cards will be admitted at a discount dis-count price. BRIDGETTE Adding interest to this week's social calendar was the delightful delight-ful dessert luncheon at which Mrs. Clem Labrum entertained members of Bridgette club. Covers Cov-ers were laid for twelve guests, including Mrs. Glenn Wyler, Mrs. Mont Killian, Mrs. Elmer Eldredge, Mrs. John Mohlman, Mrs. Parley Rawlings, Mrs. Bc'n-nie Bc'n-nie Schmiett, Miss Karma Dee Harmston, Mrs. Ned Bellon, Mrs. Marvell Neilson, Mrs. Johnnie Cook. Mrs. Bill Murdock and Mrs. Verland Nelson. Bridge formed the diversion following luncheon. Prizes were won by Mrs. Rawlings, Mrs. Neilson and Mrs. Murdock. ENTERTAINS FOR VISITOR A delightful evening was spent at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hall, Saturday, January 17, when they entertained informally infor-mally honoring Mr. Lewis J. Workman, of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Hall's brother. Guests included in-cluded Mr. and Mrs. Wilford W. Workman, Mr. Stanley Hall, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hall, Mrs. Pearl Swain, Mrs. Frank McClure, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gardner, and the guest of honor. Cards formed the diversion and the evening was climaxed by a delicious supper with Mrs. McClure and Mrs. Gardner assisting as-sisting with the serving. |
