Show Selected To Attend Boys' State In June Eric Jensen, a junior at Davis High School, resident of Farmington. has been selected to represent Farmington at the American Legion Boys' State to be held at USU in Logan June 6-12. JOHN POULK, commander of American Legion Post 27 of Farmington, announced that this post will sponsor Eric. Eric is the son of Blaine and Clarice Jensen, 413 W. Wellington Wel-lington Way. He will be a senior next year at Davis High. His scholastic interests are in math and social science and he has maintained a 3.8 cumulative cumula-tive through his high school years. He also plays on the varsity soccer team and is interested in-terested in many sports. ERIC IS is interested in community affairs and is very involved in service groups, as the son of a retired army officer. offic-er. He has traveled around the world and held various community com-munity and religious leadership leader-ship positions. He is also an Eagle Scout. Mr. Poulk said that Boys' State purpose is "to educate our youth in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship." It is wholly a plan for training in the practical prac-tical aspects of government. It is functional in that applications applica-tions of the principles of democratic demo-cratic government are made in every possible way. THE CONSTITUTION and the statutes of the state of Utah are the patterns from which the fundamental law of the American Amer-ican Legion Boys' State has been developed. Boys' State should be thought of as a mythical 51st state with a constitution, con-stitution, statues and ordinances ordi-nances constructed by its citizens to govern themselves. , Post 27 of Farmington wishes to think the following contributors who made it possible pos-sible to send Eric to Boys' State, and Marilee Payne to Girls' State. The generosity of these local merchants and businesses has enabled girls to attend each year. |
